Build Camp Communities
Where Character Comes to Life

Camps have always helped shape who young people become through relationships, traditions, challenge, reflection, and belonging. SCCI helps camps strengthen that work intentionally—through research-informed approaches to culture, character development, and social-emotional growth.

Programs Don't Determine Character. Culture Does.

Character development does not happen in isolated lessons or one-time activities. It is shaped through everyday experiences: how staff model leadership, how conflict is handled, how traditions reinforce values, and how young people experience belonging within a community.

At SCCI, we help camps connect the values they already care deeply about — responsibility, empathy, integrity, resilience, leadership, inclusion—with research-backed practices from social-emotional learning and youth development.

Character is the outcome.
Culture is what makes it possible.

Why Camp Settings Matter

Camp environments are uniquely positioned to support social and emotional growth because they are immersive, relational, and community-centered by design.

Research consistently links these kinds of environments with:

When culture is intentional, these outcomes become part of everyday camp life — not separate initiatives.

*Camp Funding Opportunities

More funding opportunities are emerging for youth development initiatives focused on character development, belonging, and social-emotional growth.

SCCI can serve as an eligible service provider for grant-funded initiatives, including work connected to ACA’s Character at Camp initiative. We are also happy to help camps think through how this work may align with current funding opportunities.
